Hengqin Unveils a New Era of Industrial Synergy and Growth

In a recent interview with Macau Daily and Southern Daily, Dr. Aglaia Kong, CEO and CTO of LeapFive Technology, discussed the evolving landscape of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin (hereafter “Cooperation Zone”). The primary focus is fostering high-quality development as part of the broader agenda to build a modern socialist nation.

This pivotal year for the Cooperation Zone is marked by the implementation of three significant initiatives: cultivating distinctive industries, facilitating cross-border element flow, and profoundly integrating livelihood enhancements. These strategic moves are designed to spur exceptional growth, embodying the unique developmental ethos of the Cooperation Zone.

The year 2024 is set to witness the operationalization of “second line” customs supervision facilities, the completion of a financial electronic enclosure system, and the launch of a Macao-Hengqin cross-border logistics expressway, transforming these initiatives into tangible realities within the Cooperation Zone.

Echoing this sentiment, the Macao Special Administrative Region government, in its “2024 Fiscal Year Policy Address,” underscored its commitment to achieving the initial phase goals of the “Overall Plan for the Construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin,” demonstrating a determined and resolute approach.

The Cooperation Zone is rapidly becoming a nexus for the burgeoning “Four New” industries and accelerated integration of public welfare projects, all converging towards the 2024 phase one objectives.

Catalyzing a Thriving Hengqin-Macao Industrial Ecosystem

At LeapFive Technology’s Hengqin Macao Youth Entrepreneurship Valley hub, teams are engrossed in developing innovative solutions. In a strategic move this June, LeapFive Technology relocated its headquarters to the Cooperation Zone. It was subsequently recognized in August as a primary candidate in the inaugural group of enterprises prepared for public listing. The company’s portfolio includes two advanced chip models designed for AIoT sensing and edge computing, with applications spanning the energy Internet, industrial automation, and smart city infrastructure.

Dr. Aglaia Kong, CEO and CTO of LeapFive Technology, lauds the exceptional R&D environment in Hengqin, home to research centers from the University of Macau and Fudan University, surrounded by a thriving ecosystem of sci-tech enterprises. This conducive setting bolsters collaboration and positions the Cooperation Zone as a potential hub for an integrated circuit industry, encompassing design, packaging, and testing processes.

The sci-tech sector within the Cooperation Zone is witnessing expansive growth, emerging as the preferred hub for Macao’s innovative and entrepreneurial youth. High-growth Macao-funded tech firms like AkroStar, Wisewave, and Digifluidic underscore this trend. Currently, the Cooperation Zone has 282 national high-tech companies, including 16 Macao-funded firms, and 41 nationally and provincially recognized “specialized and new” companies, with four being Macao-funded.
